AOL Signs Distribution Deal With Sports Network

2005-12-05 10:39:00

America Online Inc. on Monday said it had signed a content syndication and distribution agreement with Rivals.com, a network of more than 150 college and high school sports sites.

The Dulles, Va., entertainment portal said Rivals.com news and information would be available in time for the kickoff of Bowl season.

Rivals.com delivers audio, video, and written features on college and high school sports. The content will be available through AOL Sports.

"AOL Sports has previous success with college sports content, such as our March Madness promotion, and this new partnership furthers AOL's commitment to in-depth and entertaining channel offerings," Carlos Silva, senior vice president of AOL Sports, said. "We are looking forward to further developing the relationship with Rivals.com through additional college and high school sports initiatives currently in development." Under the agreement, AOL, a unit of Time Warner Inc., will feature weekly team, player, and recruiting rankings, game previews, and recaps. There will also be weekly in-season national features for high school sports teams, and daily videos focusing on teams, players, and recruiting in prep and college sports.

In a separate announcement, AOL said its video search engine would feature RSS feeds from MTV Networks' programming services. Video content from Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite and other Web sites would be accessible through AOL.com's Video On Demand tab, AOL Search and Singingfish, AOL's video search service that is separate from the portal.
