Software Enables Wireless Push E-Mail

E-mail platform vendor Visto said Monday that it has released software that enables wireless operators to provide real-time e-mail service similar to that provided by Good Technology and Research In Motion''s BlackBerry platform.
The company said its Visto Mobile can deliver both e-mail and personal information to any 2.5 or 3G device using what it calls its ConstantSync platform. The platform supports AES encryption for security. In addition. Visto claimed that its solution requires significantly less bandwidth than other "push" e-mail products.
The company''s previous platform provided e-mail access to wireless operators -- Nextel and AT&T Wireless offer the service in the U.S. However, the new software offers e-mail in real time, a capability popularized by BlackBerry devices and software.
Similar technology from RIM and Good Technology require enterprises to install server-side software but Visto says that it''s platform requires adoption only by wireless operators. It said the platform delivers e-mail on phones using Microsoft, Palm and Symbian platforms.
In a statement, the company made a bold prediction about its expectations for the new software.
"We have the most advanced solution, strong mobile operator partnerships, the broadest device support, the financial strength and the patented intellectual property which will allow us to surpass RIM''s total subscriber base in 2005," Brian Bogosian, Visto''s chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement.
