Overstock.com Inc. on Friday said it has agreed to acquire online travel company Ski West Inc. for $25 million in cash.
Salt Lake City-based Overstock.com expected the acquisition to close July 1. Ski West, based in Park City, Utah, would operate as a subsidiary of Overstock.com, which plans to retain the smaller company's employees.
Overstock.com provides shopping, travel services and online auctions. Ski West, launched in 2001, sells travel services related primarily to popular ski areas in the United States and Canada. The site recently expanded into the Caribbean and Mexico.
Patrick Byrne, chairman and president of Overstock.com, said the acquisition fits into the company's mission of being the "one-stop shop for discounts on everything for which people shop online."
