Yahoo Inc. on Wednesday launched a small-business resource center that offers online services that include designing a commercial website, as well as articles on a variety of topics, such as marketing, technology and human resources.
The new site contains about a thousand articles of business-related content created by the Sunnyvale, Calif., portal, or by a variety of news sources, including Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur.com, AllBusiness.com, BuyerZone.com and the legal site Nolo.
"The new Yahoo Small Business Resource Center provides information and resources that will help entrepreneurs with every aspect of their business, with a particular focus on how to leverage the Internet to be successful online," Rich Riley, vice president and general manager of Yahoo's small-business unit, said in a statement.
The site tries to address small-business concerns recently identified in a study by market researcher The Yankee Group, Yahoo said. According to the Yankee poll, the major challenges facing small-business owners include complying with governmental regulations, improving time management for better strategic planning, and attracting and retaining quality talent.
In addition, small-business owners want more information about reducing costs, marketing, taxes and health insurance, Yahoo said.
The resource center is broken down into eight content categories, entitled Getting Started, Sales and Marketing, Online Business, Management and HR, Legal, Finance, Office and Technology, and Business Tools.
Among the Yahoo services offered on the site are commercial website design, domain-name registration and online marketing. In addition, the portal hopes to attract advertisers offering products and services to small businesses.
