Yahoo Inc. has bought Canadian company Ludicorp, which owns online photo-sharing site Flickr.
Flickr, which is currently in beta, lets consumers share and manage photos online, and competes with Yahoo's own photo service. Under the deal, announced Sunday, both services would operate independently, according to Flickr's company web log.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., was expected to eventually incorporate Flickr features within Yahoo Photos, and allow Yahoo account holders to use their current user IDs and passwords to access Flickr services. The deal also is expected to increase storage and the size of uploads for the users of Flickr's free and paid services, Vancouver-based Flickr said.
