Los Angeles, already a hub for fast wireless access, is getting even more, a wireless ISP (WISP) said Tuesday.
NextWeb, a WISP that focuses its service in California, said it is expanding its wireless broadband network to cover the entire Los Angeles area. The WISP targets its services on businesses and said that the expansion will make wireless broadband available to 50,000 more businesses in the area.
The pre-WiMAX service provides data speeds as high as 100 Mbps, according to NextWeb. The operator said in a statement that it already has completed expansion in the downtown Los Angeles area and will complete the rest of the expansion by the end of the year, the company said.
Another enterprise-focused WISP, TowerStream, also provides pre-WiMAX coverage to the downtown area. In addition, Verizon Wireless has expanded its 3G 1xEV-DO service to cover the entire Los Angeles metropolitan area.
