WebMD continued on the acquisition path, announcing it is acquiring HealthShare Technology, a supplier of decision support tools that assist in the evaluation of hospital care and quality. WebMD said it is paying $31 million in cash and up to an additional $5 million if certain financial milestones are reached.
"HealthShare is the clear market leader helping health plan members and employees to make more informed hospital decisions," said Roger Holstein, CEO WebMD Health, in a statement Monday. "They work with seven of the top ten health plans and in total, HealthShare provides its service to more than 85 million members."
HealthShare's online decision support tools are provided to a range of users, from health plan executives, to hospital employees and executives. WebMD reaches a broad audience ranging from physicians to consumers.
