Millions of taxpayers followed the usual pattern this year of heading to the Internet in the last few days leading up to the April 15 deadline, a research firm said Thursday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, more than 1.2 million and 1 million consumers, respectively visited the site of the Internal Revenue Service, ComScore Networks Inc. said. TurboTax.com, run by Intuit Inc., and HRBlock.com, operated by tax-preparer H&R Block, drew 320,000 and 214,000 people, respectively.
Last year, 1.9 million procrastinators went to the IRS website on April 15.
The busiest time for early filers usually occurs between late January and mid-February. This year's early peak was during the week ending Feb. 6, when nearly 14 million Americans visited tax sites, ComScore said. For the full month of February, 29 million consumers went to those sites.
