Online auctions never cease to amaze. Take Friday, for instance. The U.S. Marshals Service is auctioning an entire house online, and a major sports complex is taking bids for single-day naming rights.
Bid4Assets Inc., which auctions forfeited, surplus and tax-defaulted property, said it will auction off a single family home in Columbus, Ohio. Bidding opens Feb. 22, Bid4Assets said.
The house auction has a minimum bid of $125,000, and interested bidders are required to submit a $12,500 pre-bid deposit. The firm has been selling Marshals Service forfeited material since 1999.
"Interested buyers can find all the information they need to make a purchasing decision online," said Bid4Assets vice president of marketing Jenny Lynch, in a statement.
Meanwhile, on eBay, Boston's Fleet Center sports and entertainment arena is offering one-time single-day naming rights to the arena. Winners have the opportunity to name the arena for a day.
The Fleet Center's name stems from the Fleet Bank, which was acquired by Bank of America several months ago. The arena, which is home to the Boston Celtics (basketball) and the Boston Bruins (hockey), will create signs and other promotional material for the parties obtaining the one-day rights.
