Earthlink Sues Alleged Spammers

Earthlink Inc. on Wednesday said is has filed four lawsuits that accuse alleged spammers in four states of violating the federal CAN-SPAM act.
The Internet service provider said the suits were filed in federal court in Atlanta against defendants in California, Florida, Nevada and Washington.
Besides CAN-SPAM, the defendants are accused of violating other state and federal laws, including the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Georgia Computer Systems Protection Act and state and federal racketeering laws.
EarthLink is asking the court to issue an injunction preventing the defendants from "illegally spamming any Internet user, regardless of the user''s ISP," the company said in a statement. Earthlink is also seeking unspecified damages.
Defendants include Gregory Lars Alsing of Elk Grove, Calif., and Impression Media Inc. of Las Vegas, Nev. Both are accused of sending spam last year that advertised cable descramblers and fraudulent college diplomas.
Craig S. Brockwell of Miami and BC Alliance Inc. of Sunrise, Fla. are accused of sending deceptive emails advertising discount printer supplies.
Christina Reese, Angela M. Nickerson, YamboCS Inc. and YamboCS.com, all of Redmond, Wash., are accused of sending spam advertising pornographic web sites.
Finally, Peter Moshou, Auberndale, Fla., is accused of sending spam in 2004 and this year that solicited contact information by offering brokerage services for people interested in selling their timeshares.
