Motorola Acquires Ucentric

Motorola Inc. on Tuesday said it has acquired Ucentric Systems Inc., a maker of media networking software for the home.
Ucentric, based in Maynard, Mass., software provides access to stored digital entertainment, such as video in a digital video recorder or music and pictures in a desktop, from any connected device. The software is designed to operate with electronic program guides from multiple vendors, and service providers can customize the interface with applications that are personalized for subscribers.
Motorola, based in Schaumburg, Ill., plans to market the home software products to third-party service providers and consumer electronics manufacturers. It also plans to use the software in its digital set-top boxes.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Ucentric is a privately held company.
