Dell announced two new all-in-one printers (AIOs) at the DigitalLife show last weekend, the Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 926 and the Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 966. Together with the Dell Photo All-in-One Printer 946 the company announced in August, these AIOs represent a complete refresh of Dell''s ink jet AIO line.

The 926 replaces the Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 924 as Dell''s low-end ink jet AIO. Targeted primarily at the home and intended for light-duty home office use, the 926 can print directly from a PictBridge-enabled camera, memory card, or computer. It can also scan or work as a standalone copier, but there''s no built-in fax modem or automatic document feeder (ADF)—two office-centric features you''ll find in Dell''s more expensive 946 and 966 models.

Dell rates the 926''s speed at 20 pages per minute (ppm) for printing in black and 15 ppm for color. As with many printers for the home or home office, you have the choice of printing photos with either four colors or six, depending on the ink cartridge you use. There''s no guarantee that six-color printing will improve photo quality, but if done right, it often does. The maximum resolution is 1200 by 4800 dots per inch (dpi).

The 966, which can print, scan, and work as both a standalone copier and fax machine, replaces the Dell Photo All-In-One Printer 964 at the high end of Dell''s ink jet AIO line. It''s rated at 32 ppm for black and 23 ppm for color, and is a much better fit than the 926 for a small office or busy home office—not only because it''s faster, but because it''s got a built-in fax modem and 50-page ADF, which are important conveniences for faxing or scanning multi-page documents.

The 966 also offers photo-related features that let it serve double duty as a home printer that can also come in handy for business—like in a real estate office that needs to print photos, for example. It claims the same maximum 1200-by-4800-dpi resolution as the 926 and offers the same option to print in either four or six colors. In addition to printing from PictBridge-enabled cameras and memory cards, it can also print from USB keys. And the 2.4-inch LCD on the front panel lets you preview photos before printing.

The built-in scanners on both AIOs offer a 1200 pixel per inch (ppi) optical resolution, which should be more than enough for scanning, copying, or, for the 966, faxing photos or documents.

Both AIOs are available through Dell''s Web site at $99 for the 926 and $199 for the 966.
