AOL Adds Extras To ICQ With Xtraz
2004-10-25 11:20:00
AOL today announced the availability of new features for its open source ICQ 4.0 with Xtraz instant messaging platform. The Xtraz extensions were released in April with version 4.0 of ICQ (means "I Seek You" to insiders).
The ICQ Xtraz platform enables ICQ users to take advantage of new services as they are created, without the need to download a new client. The Xtraz platform also allows new features to be developed outside of the ICQ client kernel, and then delivered or updated to users without disrupting the message flow.
New features announced today include video instant messaging, some new interactive games and a new service that allows users to create caricatures from photographs for use as personalized icons.
ICQ Video Xtraz enables live streaming video conversations with others via their ICQ connection. Users with a webcam and microphone can click on the ICQ Video button on the Xtraz panel to engage in audio/video chat with colleagues.
Included in the New Games Xtraz are business education classics Bouncy n'' Bob, Checkers and Rock Paper Scissors. This last game is especially well suited for litigants in battles that are sure to break out after November 2. All games include 3D graphics and animated characters.
ICQ Devils (icons) can now be created using Draw-Me Xtraz. By sending $15 and a photograph users can have caricatures created for use as personalized icons in their message window. Presidential candidates need not apply as we are already overloaded with their caricatures.
